Coil + Drift creates well-crafted contemporary furniture, objects, and lighting for the home and workplace that emphasize functionality and balanced, modern design. They believe that furniture can energize a space and should be well used and loved every day.
Founded in 2014 by dancer-turned-designer John Sorensen-Jolink, Coil + Drift presented their first full collection at BKLYN DESIGNS in May of 2014 and launched their online showroom and accessories e-shop at www.coilanddrift.com. Their work has since been featured in ELLE Decor, Food and Wine, Dwell, New York Magazine, Apartment Therapy, Design Sponge, Lonny Magazine, Vogue, and Refinery 29 among other publications. In May, 2016, their Dusk Coffee Table was featured as one of the ‘Top Ten Cockail Tables’ in ELLE Decor USA.
Coil + Drift introduces new additions regularly, crafting a collection filled with unique and versatile items. In 2015 they exhibited new work at the Architectural Digest Home Design Show in the MADE Section. This May 14-17 they will make their debut at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) in New York City, Booth 2362.
Founder + Designer
John was fascinated by design and the arts at a young age studying everything from the violin to photography to dance and holds a Bachelor's of Fine Arts from New York University's Tisch School. He has worked extensively as a contemporary dancer and choreographer and continues to perform and show work internationally. Three years ago he created Coil + Drift following a desire to further his exploration of objects in space. He honed his woodworking skills while working around the brilliant people at Makeville Studios. As a designer and entrepreneur, John is entirely self-taught. His has been recognized twice as a Finalist for Martha Stewart's American Made Awards and has been profiled in multiple publications such as Apartment Therapy and The Hand and Eye.
